"Suspicious download blocked" or "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen" warning when downloading the Carbon Installer

Encountering any warnings when downloading the Carbon Installer is a common security feature in Web Browsers to protect your computer.

Causes

  • Beta Software: Since Carbon is beta software which has not been commonly downloaded yet, certain security measures can be very cautious about new files.
  • False Positives: Due to the strict nature of certain security measures, even safe software can trigger SmartScreen warnings.

Is the Carbon Installer Safe?

  • Ensure that you only download Carbon through the official Imaginary Labs Inc email you received after purchasing a license.
  •  DO NOT install Carbon from any other third-party sources.

Solution

We're working on a permanent solution from our side, but in the meantime, here's a temporary workaround:

  1. Verify Source: Ensure that you are downloading Carbon through the email you received from noreply@carbon.show
  2. Bypass Warning: In common browsers:
    • Chrome: Three dots next to warning -> "Keep"
    • Edge: Three dots next to warning -> "Keep" -> "Show More" -> "Keep Anyway"

Additional Tips

  • Antivirus: Run a virus scan on your computer to ensure that there is no malware present.
  • Updates: Ensure that all Windows security updates are up to date.
