Frequently Asked Questions

What versions of Unreal Engine are compatible with Carbon?

Carbon for Unreal currently utilizes Unreal Engine 5.5 and 5.6. For more information, please visit the page on Getting and Installing Unreal Engine.

Is there a Mac Version?

Carbon for Unreal is available as a beta for mac users. Performance is significantly lower than on comparably priced PCs with dedicated GPUs. Blender maintains a publicly accessible database of GPU rankings that provides a reliable reference for real-world GPU performance. View the database here.

What are the minimum system requirements?

View our latest system requirements here.

Is there an evaluation version available?

Please contact our sales department for an evaluation license.

Do you have a list of fixtures that are included in Carbon for Unreal?

View our current list of Library assets here.

How do I request a new lighting fixture or library asset, and how long does it take to complete?

Typical turn around is currently 3-4 weeks for standard priority fixture requests. We offer priority fixture build service for a fee with a 7 day or less turn-around for mission-critical projects. For standard priority requests with no fee, click here. For priority requests please contact sales@imaginary-labs.com

Is it possible to make my own fixture?

We are developing a fixture creator for Carbon, which will be announced soon. In the meantime, you can use Blueprint widgets to make anything controllable via Carbon's DMX system. To get started with making your own custom Carbon blueprints, please read through the section on User Created Blueprints.

Will Carbon for Unreal work in Multi-user sessions?

We are researching this exciting workflow and will share more soon.

How can I tell if I have the latest release of Carbon for Unreal?

There is a dynamic message on the bottom of the Unreal Status bar that will notify you of any new versions.

Is Carbon for Unreal a Project Plugin or an Engine Plugin?

We opted to develop Carbon as a Project plugin, so every project can use a different version of the plugin if needed. This is to support projects with long lifecycles or ones that need to be revisited at a later date.

Can I package my project as a standalone executable?

Carbon for Unreal is a pre-compiled plugin, and therefore does not contain any source files. Current licensing disallows the packaging of Carbon as a redistributable. Users can apply for exceptions to this rule if you work with Imaginary Labs as a project partner.
